Books & Music #3

You can find #1 here and #2 here. :)

Songs that remind me of books:

1. Don’t Wait for Him by Side Saddle

− The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

I love this song, and I really wish someone would have played it for Ava’s mother, Viviane at some point in her youth, because in the book, she throws away years of her life waiting for a person who will never be able to love her the way she deserves.

And that’s just sad.

“And if the boy needs time to stay at home
and make up his mind there are a lot of things you have left to do
but don’t wait for him to love you”

2. Weight of Living, Pt. II by Bastille

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

Noah and Jude, the main characters of this story, go through a lot of difficulties early on in their lives, changing them both in good ways and in bad. At the age of 16, neither of them is particularly happy with where they are, and I just think this song portrays that same feeling in a very nice way.

“All that you desired when you were a child
Was to be old, was to be old
Now that you are here suddenly you fear
You’ve lost control, you’ve lost control”

3. Love it Dissipates by Mother Mother

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent

I don’t want to spoil you or anything, but Agnes, our doomed heroine, is in an extremely unhealthy and harmful relationship in this book. She reshapes her entire life around this person, and like the song insinuates, it doesn’t end well.

“I mean what I say
When I say I’d be your everything
Oh baby, if you were a convict, I’d be your cell
If you were a housewife, I’d be your living hell”

4. Psycho by Muse

− The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Once again, don’t want to spoil anyone, but I’m pretty sure those of you who have read the book will understand.

“I could use someone like you
Someone who’ll kill on my command
And asks no questions”

5…..and 6. Centuries by Fall Out Boy and Love Don’t Die by The Fray

− The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I think both of these songs fit super well with this book, and every time I hear them I want to cry.

“Some legends are told
Some turn to dust or to gold
But you will remember me
Remember me for centuries”

The lyrics

“A thousand years go by
But love don’t die

No matter where we go
Or even if we don’t
And even if they try
They’ll never take my body from your side”
Love don’t die”

Once again, I had really fun with this, and I hope you did, too :)
