Hi! :D
2013 has been an exceptional book year for me, so, not surprisingly, I had some trouble writing this list. Especially since I didn’t want to write a complete series in one slot (like “The Heroes of Olympus-series” for example). But yeah, here it is! :) My top 13 books of 2013!
I’ll admit it might not be 100 % accurate since I tend to forget how I feel about things, so apologies to all the books I loved but forgot just how much (I don’t know if that makes sense), but here are some of the amazing novels I read that made this year so great, and that left the biggest impression on me. :) It won’t just be 2013 releases, but older books as well.
You can click the covers to go to my reviews if you want to know why I loved them in more detail. :)
Top 13 Books of 2013
(In No Particular Order)
13. More Than This
This story was really unpredictable, beautiful and brilliant. It’s one of those books that kind of stays with you, makes you think, and definitely makes you cry. This book managed to terrified me, not with horrifying monsters, but with feelings of loneliness and isolation.
12. Ruby Red
Ruby Red is a very lighthearted and fun book, that managed to brighten my mood, despite the very stressful time I was going through at the moment. I loved the kind of different twist Gier put on time travel, and I absolutely loved Gwen as a character.
11. Unspoken
God, talking about funny and lovable characters, Unspoken so happens to be full of them. Another great story that completely sweeped me away from my own life into a world of magic, friendship and dangers.
10. The Raven Boys
It took me way too long to pick up this book considering how fabulous it is. It is so different, mysterious, eerie and absolutely amazing! If you’ve read and enjoyed any of Maggie’s previous books, don’t hesitate.
9. Scarlet
Ever wondered what it would be like reading a fairytale retelling taking place in the future? Wonder no longer! Just read The Lunar Chronicles, for god’s sake. Hilarious, kick-ass characters, action and cyborgs…it can’t get much better.
8. The Dream Thieves
Same reason as The Raven Boys, but now with more romance, 200% more cars and Ronan Lynch. ;)
7. The Scorpio Races
Monster horses, death and blood, I mean, come on! Might possibly be my favourite book by Maggie Stiefvater.
6. The Mark of Athena
This book was what really made me fall in love with The Heroes of Olympus, so if you have a hard time with The Lost Hero, just hang in there.
5. The House of Hades
The House of Hades was everything I wanted and more. Action, Percabeth, humour and mythology. Enough said.
4. Eleanor & Park
Mother adorable-ness. This is one of my favourite love-stories ever. So cute, sad and holy-shit-he-just-held-her-hand-I-am-going-to-die. No more words needed.
3. Goliath
It’s quite hard to pick, but this might be my favourite in the trilogy. Action, betrayal, friendship, robots, more beasties and so much more. Awesome!
2. The Book Thief
Honestly, everybody needs to read this book. So beautiful, heartbreaking and absolutely amazing. It ripped my heart out and left me crying like crazy, so I suggest you to bring tissues.
1. Fangirl
Oh, Rainbow Rowell. You and your amazing contemporaries, with their amazing characters and amazing stories. This book was so relatable, fun, sad and, naturally, adorable.
Which of the books you read this year are your favourites? Please tell me down in the comments. :)
Oh man! I haven’t read any of these! Ha! But I want to.
Probably Salman Rushdie’s Midnights Children made 2013 for me. It was a game changer! Also, The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead.
Here’s hoping 2014 is even better for books!! :D
You really really should :)
I haven’t heard of Midnight’s Children, but I loved The Fiery Heart :).
Oh good lord, I need to read so many of these! Seriously, I’ve only read two of them! GAH! Will definitely be going back and reading your reviews later today to see which I need to add to my to read list ASAP!
Do so ;D. Which of them have you read? :)
I’ve read The Book Thief and Mark of Athena – and I’ve just started House of Hades, I’m determined to finish it before the end of the year so I can at least cross that off my ‘want to read in 2013’ list XD
Of the few I haven’t heard much about, More Than This and Unspoken both sound incredible! The others that I’ve heard a little bit about but not as much as the others (Ruby Red, The Scorpio Races, The Raven Boys) have solidified themselves on my to read, and I now definitely, definitely need to make sure to read the Leviathan trilogy in 2014!
Yay! Read all the books ;D
